A Luciferic type, pretty concentrated on his own ego, quite emotional – Hanging on the Right Cross
The Difference between Lucifer and Ahriman
I had earlier in my life difficulties seeing what was Luciferic and what was Ahrimanic, and it seems to be a problem for many. In connection with the Gilgamesh epic I had an inspiration for a rule of thumb:
Lucifer has to do with the Sentient soul, the personal, and it’s negative sides as egoism or arrogance, where Ahriman has to do with the Intellectual soul, the impersonal, where unemotional thinking is the sign of Ahriman, that could be a social worker who just don’t care, or it could be a political leader where the ideals comes before anything else, where empathy is a foreign word, which is a Sentient soul thing, and Compassion, which is a Consciousness soul thing.
Christ is of course connected to the Consciousness soul.
Outside of man, Ahriman works through the Law’s and Rules which inhibits mans conscious thinking and behavior. And with laws we should both understand man-made and god-made, as for example gravity. The higher our weight the more we fight with gravity, the more docile we become in both thinking and actions; the distance from thought to action becomes longer with the number of pounds/kilo we have to move, even if the action is non-physical.
Lucifer works actively through persons, like a leader in a big organization who don’t delegate responsibility, but controls everything through rules, and the rules are Ahrimanic, and they may even be scientifically justified, they just don’t work as intended, as they haven’t taken into consideration that the workers are humans and not robots.
The Luciferic is the opposite of Truth (Truth, Beauty, and Goodness):
How often it is the case that a man would like to be a person of note not by virtue of his own spiritual life, but by virtue of some profession or title. He likes to have some such title as “Secretary” or “Notary,” and then imagines he is of importance when convention thus describes him. The essential thing, however, is that he shall be able to realize his existence inwardly, apart from all externalities.
What is it that can strengthen man in this sense of being? In earthly existence we live in a world that is but a copy of true reality. Indeed, we only understand this physical world aright when we realize it to be this copy of reality. It behooves us, however, to feel the true reality within us; we must be aware of our connection with the spiritual world. And this is only possible if the bond that links us with pre-earthly existence remains intact.
This bond is strengthened by a love of truth and Integrity. Nothing establishes man’s true and original sense of existence so firmly as a feeling for truth and truthfulness. To feel himself in duty bound first to “prove all things” he utters, to set due restraint on all his words — this helps to consolidate the sense of existence that is worthy of his being. To be aware of the spirit within the physical body — with this, indeed, the sense of being is connected. There is, in effect, an intimate kinship between the physical body and this ideal of Truth.
The Lucifer and the Aurvedian Rajas
The Aurvedian Three Gunas, Tamas, Rajas, and Sattva, corresponds to the trinity of Ahriman, Lucifer, and Christ. Lucifer:
The Rajasic people are like the proverbial “A” type personalities. Highly energetic and mostly restless, they pursue very down to earth policies and follow the goal of artha or material possessions. More wealth and more power give them happiness and the means are less important than the goals. Only a few who follow this life-long pursuit of possessions and power ever succeed and sustain, leading to collective unhappiness of this lot. The happiness of the majority of them rises with the tide of increasing possessions and ebbs with the loss of wealth and power.
From my Serpents of the Kundalini Fire:
In the Anthroposophy Rudolf Steiner describesthe two sides of man as being a kind of fight between Luciferic and Ahrimanic powers, where Lucifer is the masculine power and Ahriman is the feminine power. Both described in the literature as Serpents or Dragons. Lucifer represents The Right Pillar and Ahriman The Left Pillar. They are on Earth seen as Evil powers, but they are necessary factors in our development, as we both need the Feminine and Masculine influence, but we need to find the balance between them.
Man in relation to the Tree of Life
The left part of you — your left man, as it were — is the fortification set up by Lucifer, and your right man is the fortification set up by Ahriman. And the whole art of life consists in finding the true balance between them.
The answer is supplied for Initiation-wisdom through a very, very weighty fact, through an event which took place far over in Asia at the beginning of the third millennium of the pre-Christian era. Clairvoyant vision finds in looking back that an incarnation of a supersensible Being in a human being had taken place there, just as in the Event of Golgotha an incarnation of the supersensible Christ Being had taken place in the man Jesus of Nazareth. The incarnation that took place at the beginning of the third millennium B.C is extraordinarily difficult to follow up, even with the science of seership, of initiation. It gave humanity something of immense brilliance, having an incisive effect. What it gave to humanity, in fact, was the primeval wisdom.
Viewed externally, one can say that it was a wisdom penetrating deep into reality; cold, based purely on ideas, permeated little by feeling. The actual inner nature of this wisdom can be judged only by going back to that incarnation which took place over in Asia at the beginning of the third pre-Christian millennium. It is revealed to the retrospective clairvoyant gaze that this was an actual human incarnation of the Luciferic Power.
And this incarnation of Lucifer in humanity, which in a certain way has been achieved, was the origin of the widely extended ancient wisdom based on the Third Post-Atlantean civilization.
There was still an after-effect, even in Grecian times, of the widespread cultural impulse that was derived from this Asiatic, Luciferic human being. Luciferic wisdom was of the utmost benefit to man in that epoch of evolution – brilliant in a certain way, graduated according to the different peoples and races among which it was spread. It was plainly recognizable throughout the whole of Asia, then in the Egyptian civilization, the Babylonian civilization and even in the culture of Greece.
