The Mythical Constant of the Universe – 137

The most mystical and mythical number in the universe, both within science and esotericism.

Esoterically it defines God and man as we are created in the picture of God. It shows God as one, as three in the Trinity or body, soul and spirit, and the seven Elohim or seven human spiritual bodies.

For physicists, it describes the universe. It’s called the fine-structure constant and is one of the key physical constants of the universe.

“This immutable number determines how stars burn, how chemistry happens, and even whether atoms exist at all,” as Michael Brooks explained in a New Scientist article.

If this value was changed just a little the universe would end in chaos that would not have been habitable, where life, as we know it, couldn’t have evolved.

Since the early 1900s, physicists have postulated that the number could lie at the heart of a grand unified theory, relating theories of electromagnetism, quantum mechanics and, especially, gravity.

The fine-structure constant, a dimensionless physical constant, is approximately 1/137.

Lederman expounded on the significance of the number in his book The God Particle: If the Universe Is the Answer, What Is the Question?, noting that not only was it the inverse of the fine-structure constant, but was also related to the probability that an electron will emit or absorb a photon—i.e., Feynman’s conjecture.

He added that it also “contains the crux of electromagnetism (the electron), relativity (the velocity of light), and quantum theory (Planck’s constant).

It would be less unsettling if the relationship between all these important concepts turned out to be one or three or maybe a multiple of pi. But 137?

The number 137, according to Lederman, “shows up naked all over the place”, meaning that scientists on any planet in the universe using whatever units they have for charge or speed, and whatever their version of Planck’s constant may be, will all come up with 137, because it is a pure number.

Lederman recalled that Richard Feynman had even suggested that all physicists put a sign in their offices with the number 137 to remind them of just how much they do not know.

At the range of 10−15 m (1 femtometer), the strong force is approximately 137 times as strong as electromagnetism.

In Religion

The Bible says that Ishmael, Levi and Amram all lived to be 137 years old. The three appearances make it the most common lifespan of individuals in the Bible.

Kabbalah

The Hebrew word קבלה (Kabbalah) has a Gematria (numerical value) of 137.

Kabbalah is generally taken to mean “the received tradition”, which conveys the continuity of a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. Nevertheless, the earlier nuance of meaning is seen in the first appearances of its root in the Torah (Exodus 26:5 and 36:12), where it means “parallel” or “corresponding” rather than “receiving”.

It is used to describe the “corresponding loops”, which, when clasped together, enjoined the two sections of the Tabernacle’s ceiling. These loops were suspended directly over the veil that divided the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies.

Symbolically, this is the threshold between the physical dimension and the utterly spiritual dimension. In other words, at the boundary line of the physical world, the number 137 emerges. The wisdom of Kabbalah is to find correspondences between the mundane and spiritual levels of reality.

Creation in Taoist tradition and European tradition

First the TAOist creation of the Three Logoi:

▪️ Tao gives birth to One,
▪️ One gives birth to Two,
▪️ The Two gives birth to Three,
▪️ The Three gives birth to all universal things.

All universal things shoulder the Yin and embrace the Yang.
The Yin and Yang mingle and mix with each other to beget the harmony.

The picture shows the universe in a symbolic way through the Yin-Yang symbol. The dark Yin is the not yet transformed and the Yang is the transformed Yin so we transform from left to right. The imaginary line between yin and yang is TAO, the soul, the true power of the universe.

▪️ The physical world and body (Xun) is the most difficult to transform and first in a far future can we transform it fully.
▪️ The etheric world and body (Kan) is not as hard and therefore easier to transform, but still, we will first be ready to make the transformation in the future.
▪️ The astral world and body is what we work with now, it’s here the ego with it’s karma is purified, transformed from the youngest daughter (Dui) to the youngest son (Gen), from left to right, to Manas.

The white in the soul also tells how developed each part are in the current part of the development. The soul is our central part, our sun, our heart, and it’s where we find God.

Here the creation in detail (Book of Change), how the eight Trigrams are created in the above figure representing the planetary powers working on earth and humanity:

▪️ The Creative (☰ Qian) is heaven, therefore, it is called the father.
▪️ The Receptive (☷ Kun) is the earth, therefore, it is called the mother.
▪️ In the Trigram of the Arousing (☳ Zhen,) she seeks for the first time the power of the male and receives a son. Therefore, the Arousing is called the Eldest Son. [The highest spiritual principle in man, Atma.]
▪️ In the Trigram of the Gentle (☴ Xun) the male seeks for the first time the power of the female and receives a daughter. Therefore, the Gentle is called the Eldest Daughter. [The lowest principle in man, the physical.]
▪️ In the Trigram of the Abysmal (☵ Kan) she seeks for a second time and receives a son. Therefore, it is called the Middle Son. [The second lowest principle, the etheric.]
▪️ In the Trigram of the Clinging (☲ Li) he seeks for a second time and receives a daughter. Therefore, it is called the Middle Daughter. [The second highest principle, Buddhi.]
▪️ In the Trigram of Keeping (☶ Gen) Still she seeks for a third time and receives a son. Therefore, it is called the Youngest Son. [The third highest principle, Manas.]
▪️ In the Trigram of the Joyous (☱ Dui) he seeks for a third time and receives a daughter. Therefore, it is called the Youngest Daughter. [The third lowest principle, the Astral.]

Here the same described in western terminology:

▪️ First came the Father, he created the physical world out of himself, he is Atma.
▪️ Then came the Son, (s)he created the etheric world out of herself, she is Buddhi.
▪️ Last came the Holy Spirit, he created the astral world out of himself, he is Manas.

So the rows defines each Logos, where creation starts from below.

▪️ The Holy Spirit is the master over the physical world. The Son and Father works through the Holy Spirit within the physical world.
▪️ The Son is master of the Soul, central creative power of creation, as shown through the whiteness in the YinYang symbol, and therefore the leading spiritual being, who is called the Logos in Saint John’s gospel.
▪️ The Father is master of the spiritual world, but not as developed as the soul, we haven’t transformed much of the physical yet.

The Three Mother Letters

The Hebrew letters, their form and how they are created, how they are put together to extend its meaning or create new letters, is simply so beautiful and ingenious that it’s nearly unbelievable. The Hebrew letters is an artificial alphabet just as sanskrit is an artificial language. It reminds in it’s construction of a sublimation of Chinese signs.

The letters and words are archetypal signs, giving a unique strength to describe the esoteric wisdom that only can be understood through the archetypes and not through abstractions.

But we don’t need to understand the Hebrew letters, the archetypal informations is found everywhere. The reason I describe the Three Mother Letters is that they tell the same story as the Gnostic creation story around Sophia, the Christian and the Indian creation stories, and the Mayans, and many others, with a very simple but clear symbology.

IMG_0934The three mother letters is not only the three letters the other letters of the alphabet is formed, but also the primordial powers of the universe who created everything in existence.

The First Logos א Aleph

Aleph is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet or Aleph-bet, here starts the creation at the Beginning of Time. As א Aleph is the first letter it has the numerical value of 1. It is associated with air, with the wind. bible-verse-john-1

This letter is central in many esoteric names connected to the Beginnings, like אלוהים Elohim, which is the word for the primordial gods or hierarchies. The word for God is ‘El,’ written with א Aleph and ל Lamed. The Beginnings is also known as Chronos or the angelic hierarchy called the Archai, the Spirits of Time and Personality, or Sophia.

This is the first creation, the Father, Adam, אדם, the material foundation for all later creation, in a form much like hot air. At the end of creation it will be transformed into Atma. Aleph, means “bull, ox, cattle, cow” and represent the physical body.

The development takes place through seven æons, cosmic days, and the I AM of the creator, Atman, permeates the new creation in each step. It permeates the physical in the first period, and ends in Atma in the last period.

Adam is the Father, Lilith the physical expression of the Father. Eve is the Mother, Cain is the Etheric expression of Eve, the Son of God. Abel is the Son of Man, the Holy Spirit. See Sophia, Created in the Beginning.

The Sound of AUM (ॐ) and א

AUM is a matrix of all sounds. These three sounds can be said without the tongue, all other sounds can be said with these three sounds modified by the tongue. Much as the Three Mother Letters create all other letters.

Linguistically, all audible sounds are produced beginning at the root of the tongue and ending at the lips.

  • A is the throat sound, symbolized through the lower lip, sitting on the lower jaw, not connected to the rest of our skeleton. It represent the powers from the spirit.
  • The U sound starts at the root of the tongue, continuing until it ends in the lips. Symbolized through the line between the lips, the Word. The tongue is free of the skeleton, represents the soul between body and spirit, creating the reality by using the powers from body and spirit.
  • M is the lip sound, symbolized through the upper lip, connected to the whole skeleton, representing the powers from the body.

א Aleph can also be seen as the mound. The left and lower wing is the upper lip, the Third Logos, the Holy Spirit. The middle line is the line between the lips, the Second Logos, the Word. The right and upper wing is the lower lip, the First Logos, the Father.

The Second Logos מ Mem

Mem is the thirteenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Mem exists in two shapes shown in the spelling of the word מם Mem. On the right, the first shape is open at the bottom. This opening symbolizes the flowing wave made by the י Iod through the ray of creation, the ו Vav. The closed shape on the left represents potential creation.

י Iod ו Vav and the final ם Mem spell the word יום yom, which means “day”. We find the word יום yom in the Book of Genesis for the days of creation. The closed Mem is the Cosmic Day, the male principle in the creation, like Yaldabaoth or Vishnu.

The י Iod and the final Mem spells the word, ים yam, a word similar to יום yom. ים Yam means sea, ocean. Letters םמ Mem together with the letter י Iod in the middle, spell the word מים mayim, water. Water symbolizes wisdom in it’s lower aspect, as Memory in the Etheric world, and wisdom in its higher aspect, Buddhi. The Iod in between is the transforming principle, the soul, the I AM, that transforms the etheric to buddhi, karma to wisdom.

So in the shape of both open Mem and final Mem, we see that the letter Iod is like a wave at the top left, which expresses that the Iod, the beginning of יהוה Iod-Hei-Vav-Hei, as a wave of water, causes the flowing of the Logos, the word. The female Mem works through the masculine Mem in the form of the creator Yahweh, Christ, Krishna or Adam Kadmon.

The letter ם final Mem is related with the second aspect, Ain Soph.The word soph means end or final. It relates to the Unmanifested Mother.

The letter Mem symbolizes the womb, the unknowable. The מ open Mem, which has a gap in the bottom, is the womb that is ready for parturition; it is that womb from which all the days of Genesis emerge, except the first, the Father. The Father is also a creator, but the Father only gives the י Iod, the seed. The Mother shapes it for nine months. The מ open Mem is the U in AUM.

The daughter coming from the Father, is the first visible feminine aspect, Eve. That feminine aspect is the Divine Mother, Sophia, always hidden in the three primary forces, represented in the letter א Aleph.

The name for the Divine Mother is מרים Miriam – which begins with the open Mem and ends with the final Mem, also known as Shechinah. מרים Miriam appears as a sister of משה Moses, whose name also begins with Mem. Miriam is translated in English to Mary and otherwhere also to Maria.

We are the letter מ Mem, physically speaking, but we can’t see it. The shape of the letter מ Mem itself is the central nervous system, the the very womb where the Divine Mother works, the womb shown in the letter מ Mem.

The letter כ Kaf relates to the head of God, and the letter ו Vav represents the spinal column, and together they form the central nervous system, the throne of God. So Mem is the throne of God.

“Let there be light!” Yet, that light emerges because of א Aleph, the Spirit, that as a single י Iod is floating above the מ Mem.

We can awaken the שכינה Shechinah inside of ourselves by the action of the two מם Mems – the Mem of the man and the Mem of the woman. It’s called the unification of the feminine and masculine, of soul and body, the Alchemical Wedding of the Rosicrucians.

The superior waters are the מ Mem above, Eve, that are pouring into the ם Mem below, Cain, the Son of God. The מ Mem above is the Heavens, the Mother, Sophia, Wisdom, Buddhi. The ם Mem below is the earth, the Son of God, the Creating Power.

The Third Logos ש Shin

Shin is the 21’st letter of the alphabet with a value of 300, and added together giving the hidden number 3, and the Third Logos has everything to do with three. From the right the letter Shin is formed by the letters נ Nun, ז Zain and ו Vav, resting upon the base of נ Nun.

Shin symbolize three flames, so ש symbolizes fire, astral fire. Fire in Hebrew is written with two letters: א Aleph and ש Shin. The apostles are shown with the fire of the Holy Spirit above their heads, this is Shin

This shape is known in many traditions by the trident of Neptune/Poseidon/Lucifer, and the spear or trishula of Shiva, and through M in the AUM. This is the weapon of the Gods. The word Shin שין means tooth or fork. They represent the three Gunas, Tamas, Rajas and Sattva, also known as Modalities in Astrology, Fixed, Cardinal and Mutable.

The symbols for the Third Logos are the most numerous on Earth as it was the gift of Lucifer, the gift of word thinking, where we as animals previously had visual thinking.

The spelling of the name of the letter ש Shin contains the three letters שין Shin, Iod, and final Nun. The letter Iod is the top flame that when prolonged descends into the Earth as a final Nun. The letter Nun in its normal shape relates to Malkuth, the earth.

This descending Iod is the Third Logos, the withold brother of Cain, Abel, the Son of Man. Abel is the Holy Spirit awaiting that man are ready to accept his gift, the astral body, to enter the Earth at Golgotha.

Nun is ”fish” in Aramaic; it is the seed, the salt, the sperm that creates life in the physical world, Earth. These three represent the first and second logoi in the third. The gods walking the earth have often been depicted as fish-men.

The Three Logoi

Steiner have described the role of the Three Logoi and how they relate to each other. This text is simple and ingenious, but not easy to understand for western thinking. I have tried to understand it through many years, but first recently did I unravel the mystery.

His text describes the archetypal pattern behind the reality, but to understand it, we need to have a good understanding of archetypes, and not the superficial archetypes of psychoanalysis, but more like the archetypal ideas of Goethe.

All spiritual literature and religious and esoteric symbols in the world, as in I Ching, Tarot or Astrology, or in Chinese signs or dream language, build on such archetypal symbols.

These symbols are not abstractions, but represents something existing. This understanding is necessary to understand the underlying so-called hidden knowledge, that are freely accessible for everybody, but to read it we need to understand the language and it’s semantics.

Most people who interpret dreams see the dreams as american novels, with a large gallery of central characters and intricate plots, but it’s a gross misunderstanding, and the results are often long beautiful interpretations without meaning, but satisfying the ego’s wishful thinking.

Dreams are like texts written with Chinese symbols, where the person gallery is secondary, only necessary to create the picture, seldom the object of the dream.

A simple example: “a person jumps on a trampoline.” The picture shows the use of much energy without changing anything, the person in the picture is irrelevant.

Understanding the context is necessary to understand the meaning of the picture. In the case with the trampoline the dreamer had used enormous energy the day before discussing with persons who attacked her belief. It was wasted energies on something that didn’t change anything.

This is one of the difficulties translating Chinese texts to Western languages, as much knowledge of the context is necessary to understand the written. The shorter the author can make the text, leaving as much of the supposed known context out, the more beautiful it’s seen.

Here we have three definitions of Beings who bring about, who underlie a planetary chain [An incarnation of the Earth, an earth æon.] They are called the three Logoi.

• The Third Logos produces by means of combining.

When out of one substance something else having new life comes into being, this is brought forth by the Second Logos.

Everywhere, however, where we have to do with a coming forth out of nothing, we have the First Logos.

This is why the First Logos is also often called the One who is immanent in things, the Second Logos the One who in the quiescent substance in things creates life out of the living, the Third Logos the One who combines everything existing, who puts the world together out of things.

These three Logoi always manifest in the world in and through one another.

Tarot

In Tarot we have the Fool א as the first creation, the start of humanity’s long path. The Hanged Man מ symbolizes the middle of the path, where man is as deeply in the physical as possible. In the Æon ש humankind have reached the end of the path where we show we have reached the goal.

Horus through the Cosmic Day

We also know Horus under the name of Vishnu, the Second Logos. He starts the development process by developing the physical world with all living plants, animals and humans. In the next step he incorporates the soul in the bodies, and the human souls are aspects of Horus himself.

In the end the body, soul and spirit are in equilibrium and works flawlessly together, as the I AM or Atman permeates all three fully. It means that our consciousness that before only were awake in the soul now are awake in both body, soul and spirit and that they can act in parallel and in agreement without internal fights.
Horus-day

When all three are in equilibrium we will no longer die anymore, we will have our memory from life to life. We will leave the outer physical shell behind but keep the physical form behind it and takes a new physical layer on when returning to the Earth again.

This is the goal for all of mankind but already now the oldest souls who incarnated on earth are ready to go through this process.

Sophia, Created in the Beginning

sophiaSophia exists in all creation myths of Earth, directly or indirectly. The terminology or gender may vary, but the story is the same. Even within the Gnostic traditions the terminology vary wildly, and they are colored from the various religious traditions they come from.

I have here tried to show the story of Sophia in connection with other creation stories, and I have been surprised how much they are alike and how sophisticated they are.

In the Beginning

Sophia existed in the beginning, from before Chaos. When the Beginning is mentioned in religious or esoteric texts it’s always about beings known as the Beginnings, Æons, or Spirits of Time and Personality.

With Sophia started time and and a new creation. All new creation starts with the First Logos, Adam or Brahma/Atma is created within time. Through the seven æons Atma is developed to become Atman.

The dominion of Sophia is what we call soul, the soul contain our personality and understanding of time.

She came out of Pistis (faith) in the form of primeval light. Immediately her will manifested itself as a likeness of heaven, with an unimaginable magnitude.

Together with Pistis, she brought a great power into being in the first æon, who we know as the Father, Adam, Osiris or Brahma, which became like a veil between the immortals and those who came into being after them.

It means that we are Fathers too, we and the Father is one, we know everything that are within him, what there was before we don’t experience within us.

A shadow arose out of the Father, Achamod [Achamōs, Achamōth], that gave birth to envy and wrath, and became like dark waters of immeasurable deepness. This is also symbolized through Adam being created out of the earth.

We know this darkness as the minerals of our physical world. We also know it as Lilith, Tiamat or the Asuras. Pistis appeared over it, and was disturbed at what had come into being.

In the second æon, Sophia creates the Living-Eve, Zoë, the Mother and Instructors of Life, by letting a droplet of her own light flow onto the water, onto the etheric, creating the first seed of Buddhi. It became an androgynous human, which Sophia molded as a female body who bore another androgynous being. Eva proclaims her identity with Sophia and assumes the title of Isis.

Sophia sent her emanation Eve, to awaken Adam in whom there was no soul,” so that his offspring would become vessels of the light.

Then Pistis Sophia caused a lion-like spirit to come into being out of the waters, to rule over the world of matter. She called him Yaldabaoth, Aramaic for “child of chaos”, the etheric gave life to matter. He had power, but did not know how he came to be, and was “ignorant of the power of Pistis.”

He is in reality her masculine side who we later will know as Vishnu or the Son, the I AM who enter chaos where he creates order out of chaos, this chaos is also known as the Ahrimanic, Yin.

Alexander the Great, Faraoh and a Son of Zeus, is the emanation of the transformed Yaldabaoth, the Second Logos creating order out of chaos. He is also the same as Marduk who we later will know as the Archangel Michael or Mahakal. Marduk created the solar system out of Tiamat.

The Platonic philosophy used the name Demiurge instead of Yaldabaoth. Demiurge meant originally “craftsman” or “artisan” (Cain,) then became “producer” and lastly “creator”. The Demiurge is the ‘incarnated’ God, he who forms the physical out of chaos.

Chaos was his karma, so when he incarnated he took his karma on him, and although he was good, when he took the garment of karma on him he became weighted down under its weight, and had to work with the karma as any human soul must when incarnating on Earth.

Another place Adam’s creation is described in this way: The seven archons, the elemental beings of the seven planetary hierarchies, molded a man corresponding to man’s seven layers or bodies. But he had no spirit, no I AM, so they left him. Sophia sent her breath into Adam, gave him life, gave him his I AM.

Yaldabaoth and his archons were disturbed, but rejoiced when they found that Adam was not able to rise.

They are the untransformed human layers, and the I AM couldn’t permeate these wild powers. Yaldabaoth is her not yet developed masculine side.

Sophia “withdrew up to her light.”, to Buddhi, where she is known as Eve.

IMG_1706bThe godling Yaldabaoth, who is also known as Cain or Horus, the Son of God, or as Vishnu, believed that he alone existed, unaware of the goddess who brought him into being.IMG_1617.JPG

The thoughts of Yaldabaoth becomes the Word and moves over the waters as a spirit, and he separates the waters and land, making heaven and earth, the etheric and the physical.

Pistis says, “You are wrong, Samael, there is an immortal light man that exists before you.” He later realizes the truth of her words when he glimpses her image on the water, sees the image of buddhi in the etheric, when he had developed buddhi himself.

Sophia creates Sabaoth in the third æon, the Third Logos, who we also know as Abel, the son of Adam and Eve, the Son of Man. But he enters first the Earth in the form of Seth, as the etheric body wasn’t ready to receive the astral body in the start, why Abel has to await his time, await Golgotha.

Cain’s murder of Abel simply symbolizes that Abel can’t enter the world development yet, the etheric body (Cain) are not developed enough to connect to the astral body (Abel). Cain can’t connect to God, God can’t see his sacrifice, but God can see the sacrifice of Abel, can communicate with Abel. When Abel enters the Earth in the form of Seth he becomes the channel between God and Cain, he brings the smaller light to humanity.

Sabaoth helped Yaldabaoth up of the darkness, also known through the legend where Shiva stopped Vishnu running wild as the Lion avatar. We also know the story in the form of Enkido incarnating to help King Gilgamesh or the incarnation of Lucifer or Seth, giving humanity the astral body, the animal body, and teaching them how to live in a civilization.

Sophia, daughter of Pistis, instructs Sabaoth about all the things that exist. He becomes the first teacher of man, Lucifer, Shiva or Seth, the first Lightbringer, the bringer of civilization. Later we know him as the Holy Spirit. The true light-bringer is the Son of God, her masculine side.

Eve worked through the Snake, Lucifer. She promised the couple that they would be able to tell good from evil.

Kronos – Æon – Zervan

Sophia exist both in a masculine form and a feminine form, but the feminine form is the main gender. We know her masculine form as the Son or Vishnu, but also as Kronos or Chronos. The masculine form are transforming chaos to order, to Manas, Buddhi and Atma. Sophia or Kronos introduced time.

We see that what is physical, human, in the foremost figure is here more spiritualized.

Behind there is yet a third figure, bearing a lion’s head and representing the third stage of the human soul. This is how these three Isis figures appear, one behind the other. It is an actual fact that our human soul bears in it three natures — a will nature, found in the inmost depths of the being, a feeling nature and a wisdom nature. These are the three soul Mothers; we meet them in the three figures of the Egyptian Isis.”

The I AM of Sophia/Yaldabaoth moves through the seven bodies in seven consecutive æons.

Horus is Cain/Yaldabaoth, the Second Logos, and he is the beginning, and the middle, and the end.

In the first part of Earth he is going through the lower three bodies, mineral, etheric and astral body, creating our body. Also called the three pre-earthly deeds of Michael or Christ.

In the middle of Earth he is in the soul of humankind, developing the three soul bodies, sentient soul, intellectual soul and consciousness soul.

In the last part of Earth he develop the three spirit bodies together with humankind, and when the Earth have become old he raises with humanity to become spirit.

Goethe and the Mothers

Rudolf Steiner on Faust and the Mothers:

“Now what does this journey to the Mothers signify for Faust? …

Mephistopheles himself cannot enter the realm where the Mothers are enthroned although he gives Faust the key. Mephistopheles is the spirit of materialism, the spirit contained in the forces and powers of man’s material existence. To him the realm of the Mothers is the realm of nothingness.

Faust, the spiritual human being, with his bent towards the spirit is able to answer: “In thy nothingness I hope to find the All.”

Then follows the highly remarkable and significant description of the realm of the Mothers, and we are told how they weave and live in a sphere out of which the forms of the visible world are fashioned; how man, if he would penetrate to the Mothers, must rise above all that lives in space and time.

Formation, transformation, this is the essence of their realm. They are mysterious Goddesses holding sway in a spiritual realm behind the reality of the senses.

Faust must penetrate to them if he is to obtain knowledge of all that transcends the sensory and physical. Only by widening his soul to this realm of the Mothers can Faust worthily unite in Helen the eternal with the temporal.

… Goethe fully understood how in this realm of the Mothers one has to do with a sphere into which man is able to penetrate when he awakens slumbering spiritual forces in his soul.

This is for him the great moment in which are revealed to him the spiritual beings and facts which are always around us, but which with the eyes of the senses we see as little as the blind man sees color and light. It is the moment when the spiritual eyes and ears are opened to a world lying behind the physical world. Entrance into this realm is portrayed by the journey to the Mothers.”

The Three Fates

The three aspects of Isis-Sophia is a mystery, hidden in plain sight. Who does the gods bow for, the Three Fates. They lay the plan for everything in existence, for gods and man.

The Moirai

The three are called  Clotho (spinner), Lachesis (allotter) and Atropos (unturnable). The string of fate is a concrete experience for many who can see clairvoyantly, as a string with markings of old and new karma, what we have or had to handle. When zooming in on the thread it is seen as the Akashic Chronicles.

The Norns

The Norns was the absolute powers of destiny. They took the one eye of Odin and gave him the language instead, here we have the start of Kali Yuga or End of Dreamtime, we lost the spiritual communication, dream-language and got the spoken language in its stead. This we also know from India, where Vac or Saraswati was the giver of language.

In Norse mythology the Norns are female beings who rule the destiny of gods and men, twining the thread of life. They set up the laws and decided on the lives of the children of men. Their names were Urðr (that which became or happened) related with Wyrd, weird (fate), Verðandi (that which is happening) and Skuld (that which should become, debt, guilt).

As soon as the Golden Age [dreamtime] was ended, and sin began to steal even into the heavenly homes of Asgard, the Norns made their appearance under the great ash Yggdrasil, and took up their abode near the Urdar fountain. …

These three sisters, whose names were Urd, Verdandi, and Skuld, were personifications of the past, present, and future.

Their principal occupations were to weave the web of fate; to sprinkle daily the sacred tree with water from the Urdar fountain, and to put fresh clay around its roots, that it might remain fresh and ever green.

Thence come the maids Who much do know;
Three from the hall
Beneath the tree;
One they named Was,
And Being next,
The third Shall be.

Some authorities further state that the Norns kept watch over the golden apples which hung on the branches of the tree of life, experience [Buddhi], and knowledge [Etheric body], allowing none but Idun to pick the fruit, which was that with which the gods renewed their youth.

“In Snorri Sturluson’s interpretation of the Völuspá, Urðr (Wyrd), Verðandi and Skuld, the three most important of the Norns, come out from a hall standing at the Well of Urðr or Well of Fate.

They draw water from the well and take sand that lies around it, which they pour over Yggdrasill so that its branches will not rot.

These three Norns are described as powerful maiden giantesses (Jotuns) whose arrival from Jötunheimr ended the golden age of the gods.”

Here’s two things that are especially interesting, the Norns keep Yggdrasill alive, the Tree of Life, they keep our microcosmos alive, they are Sophia.

The other thing are that they ended the Golden Age of the gods, meaning that they ended what the Australian Aboriginals calls Dreamtime, what the Indians calls Kali Yuga and connects to the death of Krishna, and the old testament connects to the Tower of Babel. Now the gods, our archetypes, where tamed.

The Ariadne Thread

The hero Theseus handled six Chtlonic demons at six gates to the underworld and the Marathonian Bull, corresponding to the seven chakras, before he was send to Crete to slay the Minotaur. He was send to Crete together with six men and seven women as sacrifices to the Minotaur, but his goal was to slay the Minotaur.

Ariadne was the Mistress of the Labyrinth, and she falls in love with him, she spins a thread he should use in the labyrint to find his way out again, and she gave him a sword to kill the Minotaur.

The Labyrinth is the physical world. The Ariadne thread is the Thread of Life, the Akashic Record, the wisdom of his life, dharma, he builds while descending into the physical world.

Theseus uses the Thread of Life to ascend from the depth again. The Minotaur is Karma, Chaos, called Sin or Ahriman by some traditions, and the Sword is the ‘I’ used to fight Karma.

Theseus was god working on Earth and Ariadne god working from the spiritual world.

Vāc – The Word

Vāc (eng: Vāk) is the Sanskrit word for “speech” and a Vedic goddess. In the early Rigveda vāc refers to cosmic sound, the earliest sounds, envisioned as feminine. She said the OM of creation.IMG_1114

She is called the “mother of the Vedas”, and she gave mankind speech, which connects her to the Norns, who gave Odin and humankind language, replacing the dream-language.

She is identified with goddess Saraswati in later Vedic literature and post-Vedic texts of Hindu traditions.

Saraswati – Goddess of wisdom

Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge and wisdom and matches Sophia nicely.

Saraswati

The creation myth of India are many and complicated, but they are all inspired describing what happened with different words.

Some say that Saraswati, as part of Vishnu, created Brahma, but Saraswati became unconscious after the creation, first when Brahma had created the physical did Saraswati become conscious again, and Brahma gave Birth to her into his new creation, bound Buddhi together with Atma and the etheric to the physical.

Until then, Brahma’s creation was full of chaos, but with the help of Saraswati the creation got form, the etheric formed the physical.

Brahma is Atma and the physical, Saraswati is Buddhi and the etheric world, but also the spiritual side of Vishnu.

When the creation continues, she also emanates down into Lakshmi and Parvati, the feminine side of the Trimurti, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

Though Krishna recited the Gita, the credit goes to Saraswati as she resided in Vishnu’s tongue, was the wisdom of Vishnu, was Buddhi. Together they created the Gita. Thus Saraswati, who is called the mother of the Vedas, also becomes the mother of the Gita.

Brahma, the Supreme Being of Light

The first living being within the world of matter is Brahma, the highest Light being within the universe, in the topmost seventh heaven, Atma.

Brahma, is the first created being in countless universes with countless Brahmas but in each universe there is only one Brahma.

The universes themselves emanate from the absolute Individual, in Sanskrit called Vishnu, ‘the omnipresent One’, God as Creator. The emanation and dissolution of the countless universes is described as the exhaling and inhaling of Vishnu, as bubbles of space and time within the Causal Ocean of Vishnu.

Within this primordial universe Brahma appears as a ray, or ‘son’, of Vishnu. Through Brahma, hierarchical dimensions of existence are materialized, basically seven in number. It is Brahma who creates in ‘seven days’, starting with the channelling of light into the dark universe: ‘Let light come to be.’

Vishnu

“The world rests as the lotus in the palm of my hand, the cosmos revolves around my finger like a discus. I blow the music of life through my conch and wield my mace to protect all creatures.” – Krishna Upanishad

I can’t separate Sophia from Vishnu, they are one. It’s as if Sophia is the inner wisdom where Vishnu is the active wisdom, forming the universe.

Vishnu is Atman, and Atman is the soul, the developing agent of the universe.

Brahma emerges at the moment when time and universe is born, inside a lotus rooted in the navel of Hari, Vishnu. The Lotus could symbolize Sophia, wisdom, order in chaos. The beings with resurrection body, rainbow body, are said to be born out of the Lotus.

For Brahma and Shiva it seems to be opposite, it’s as if their feminine part is the physical and the astral world.

Vishnu is the All-Pervading One, derived from “vis’ in Sanskrit which means both ‘to spread’ and ‘to be present everywhere’. Even when there was Nothing, there was Vishnu, present as a nameless, formless, dormant energy. In this un-manifested (nirguna) state, even Vishnu was not aware of his own being. He just was.

In this Nothingness, when the first ripple of awareness stirred , spontaneously and of its own will, the formless energy became Vishnu, the Supreme Being, Parabrahman.

When Brahma begins the process of Creation, it is Vishnu who expands into everything and becomes part of everything. Now he is Brahman, the Cosmic Consciousness.

As if he is seeing a dream, Vishnu watches Brahma create the Universe. By the act of watching his dream, Vishnu sustains the Universe. When Vishnu wakes from his dream one cycle of Creation ends.

Vishnu who dreams up the Universe must also now protect it. To maintain the order of Creation, Vishnu becomes The Protector. He takes the form of Ishwara or God.

At times, when world descends into total chaos, Lord Vishnu comes to its rescue in the form of an Avatar, or incarnation.

The wisdom of Sophia or Saraswati was what formed the universe.

Viśvákarma – The divine architect of the Universe

God as Creator is also known as Viśvákarma.

From The Spiritual Beings in the Heavenly Bodies and in the Kingdoms of Nature, lecture 9, April 13, 1912:

“Then came the civilisation of Zarathustra; and Zarathustra pointed again to the same being whom the Holy Rishis had called Vishvakarma, only he alluded to him in his own way as Ahura Mazdao. The Holy Rishis knew, as also did Zarathustra, that what is meant by Vishvakarma represents the Spirit of Wisdom who streams down upon the earth and encompasses wider spheres than do the individual Spirits of Motion. Zarathustra too knew that Ahura Mazdao has wider spheres than the Spirits of Motion.”

He is the Principal Universal Architect who fabricated and designed the divine architecture of the Universe, the Lord of Creation. Brahma emerges at the moment when time and universe is born, inside a lotus rooted in the navel of Hari, Vishnu. In Rig veda Viswakarma is seen as the Ultimate reality, from whose navel all the visible comes. Same imagery is seen in Yajurveda purusha sukta, where the divine smith Tvastar originating from Viswakarma. As he is Aja the unborn he is the primordial personification of the upanishadic Parabrahman.

Vishvakarma

Vishwakarma was the universal father, creator and an all seeing god who has faces, eyes and feet on every side; and who produced and gave name to all the Heavenly, Earthly and other Celestial realms and preserves them through the exercise of his arms and wings. He sacrificed himself to himself for the evolution of this visible world, thus he is Purusha, in Christian tradition, the Mystical Lamb.

Shakti

Shakti is another description of Sophia, she is both wisdom and the chaos order is created from. She is the karma that teaches the gods.

In Shrimad Devi Bhagwat Puranas 1st book and 4th chapter. Devi addressed the Trimurti as follows:

AdiParaShakti1“I am Adi Parashakti. I am the owner of this universe. I am the Absolute Reality. I am dynamic in feminine form and static in masculine form. You have appeared to govern the universe through my energy. You are the masculine form of Absolute Reality, while I am the feminine form of that Reality. I am beyond form, beyond everything, and all the powers of God are contained within me. You must know that I am the Eternal limitless energy.

She then said: Brahma! You will be generator of the universe; the Goddess Sharada (Saraswati) is your consort, she will be recognized as the goddess of wisdom and the primeval sound. Lord Brahma, this goddess will be with you when you create the universe.

She continued: Lord Narayana (Krishna)! You are formless, yet you take form. I assign you to be the preserver of the universe. You will take a different incarnations in order to save this universe’s inhabitants. Oh Narayana! You have created Lord Brahma, and Brahma will further create thirty three kind of gods and goddesses. My third shakthi, goddess Mahakali, has been born from your mystic sleep. Your consort will be goddess Lakshmi. Lord Vishnu, this goddess will be with you when you rule/maintain the universe. When life evolves, you will take the form of Vishnu, the one who will perform the task of observing and preserving this universe.

At Last she instructed: “Oh Lord Rudra, the Great God, you are the personification of time, which is above all. You will perform the task of destroying and regenerating this universe. When you are formless, time stands still. It is due to my power that you become dynamic and are capable of bringing about the destruction and regeneration of this universe. Your consort is goddess Mahakali, Mahakali is myself , my full form , where Laxmi and Saraswati is just my clone, partial form but due to meditation, you will surpass all my forms. It is then that I will incarnate from your left half in my manifested form. This form will be my truest manifested form. Lord Shiva, I will perform the task of destroying evil and will incarnate as your consort”.

It is interesting that she will be the consort of Shiva (Lucifer) in the form of Mahakali, the feminine form of Mahakal, who we know as Michael. Mahakali was part of Vishnu, but when she left his body, he became conscious.

Atman

The Aitareya Upanishad mentions that only the “Atman” (the Self) existed in the beginning. The Self created the universe we know, the physical, the etheric (breath of life) and the astral (fire). He also created the speech. He then formed the Purusha from the etheric.

The beginning points to Sophia, she was a spirit of time and personality, time started with her. Creating the speech, language, also points to Sophia.

In the beginning Atman, the I AM, pointed at the physical, and was nearly unconscious. This is the same that are said about Sophia, that she was unconscious in the first period where Adam was created.

In the next period or æon, the old Sun, Atman points to and develops the etheric. In the following period, the old Moon, Atman points to and develops the astral. In our current period Atman points at and develops the soul, our soul.

Atman will in this way develop all the seven layers of the human body ending with Atma!

In Taoism

In Taoism the creation is shown through the Trigrams. The trigrams are build from below, where the lowest line represents the First Logos, the middle line the Second Logos and the top line the Third Logos. Here’s  how the children was created (from the Book of Change). 

The Creative (☰ Qian) is Heaven, therefore, it is called the Father.
The Receptive (☷ Kun) is the Earth, therefore, it is called the Mother.

  • In the Trigram of the Arousing (☳ Zhen,) she seeks for the first time the power of the male and receives a son. Therefore, the Arousing is called the Eldest Son. [The highest spiritual principle in man, Atma.]
  • In the Trigram of the Gentle (☴ Xun) the male seeks for the first time the power of the female and receives a daughter. Therefore, the Gentle is called the Eldest Daughter. [The lowest principle in man, the physical.]
  • In the Trigram of the Abysmal (☵ Kan) she seeks for a second time and receives a son. Therefore, it is called the Middle Son. [The second lowest principle, the etheric.]
  • In the Trigram of the Clinging (☲ Li) he seeks for a second time and receives a daughter. Therefore, it is called the Middle Daughter. [The second highest principle, Buddhi.]
  • In the Trigram of Keeping (☶ Gen) Still she seeks for a third time and receives a son. Therefore, it is called the Youngest Son. [The third highest principle, Manas.]
  • In the Trigram of the Joyous (☱ Dui) he seeks for a third time and receives a daughter. Therefore, it is called the Youngest Daughter. [The third lowest principle, the Astral.]

The trigrams have names from their position in the family, and the oldest son and daughter corresponds to the First Logos, the middle son and daughter corresponds to the two personalities of the Second Logos and the youngest son and daughter corresponds to the Third Logos.

The Symbology and Meaning of AUM

In the Beginning was the Word:

  1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
  2. The same was in the beginning with God.
  3. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
  4. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

The Word was ॐ, AUM or Amen, the physical world is the result of the resonance of the sound when it,  in the beginning, was recited.AUM1AUM represents Brahman-Atman, and the three roots of the syllable are A + U + M.

The sound is the body of the soul, and it manifests in three, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, the three Logoi. See more on the Three Logoi here: The Logos Walks the Earth.

The universe is the resonance of the word, a standing wave. Here a two dimensional standing wave:

The resonance is created by the First Logos, Brahma, and the Third Logos, Shiva. The Second Logos, Vishnu, is the Equilibrium, it gives content and form to the resonance of First and Third Logos. See more on standing waves and matter here: Matter is Made of Waves One and Two.

Here the Three Logoi, Shiva to the left, the body with the Three Gunas, in the top middle Vishnu, the soul, and to the right Brahma, the spirit.

Shiva is the 3, the trident and Tilak, symbolizing the three Gunas, Tamas, Rajas and Sattva. Vishnu is the U and Brahma the o in the top. To the right we have the I AM, Atman.

The serpent connected to the trident is also a symbol for the Third Logos, the Kundalini powers, the connection between Earth and Heaven. The infinity sign is also connected with reincarnations into the physical, the development in time.

Here the Bengali AUM in different forms. In the second the bull symbolizes Shiva. The third eye symbol has the symbol of Shiva (3) inside the triangle, and the triangle is the symbol for the Holy Grail, the third Logos.

Below I have taken the symbols on the left from a page calling themselves Scientific Research on “Hinduism Kamasutra”; they have many interesting views, although my conclusion differs. The symbology is the same as the grail.

IMG_7454The symbol for Christ is interesting, A symbolizes the First Logos, the Father, the First Creator. Omega is the symbol for the Third Logos, the Holy Spirit, the third and future creator. P symbolizes the Second Logos, the Son and current creator.

Brahma uses the Tilak of Shiva and Vishnu as he usually works through them. He may have a more circular Tilak, like the circle of the First Logos:

Krishna’s Tilak, the symbol on his forehead, is like the U in AUM, the symbol for the Second Logos.

Krishna is the incarnation of Vishnu in the Etheric world, so Vishnu have also the U Tilak, and Hanuman have too.

Krishna is the archetype of man, his body is Shiva, his soul is Vishnu and his spirit is Brahma, or in christian symbology, Christ has the Holy Spirit as body, the Son as soul, and the Father as spirit. Third Logos as body, Second Logos as soul and First Logos as spirit.

ॐ is the whole reality

AUM is the whole world. It’s also said to be fourfold, A + U + M + stillness or without an element, the I AM. It’s the past, the present and the future, and the fourth transcends time.

Everything is Brahman, and Brahman is Atman (the Soul, the Self), and Atman is fourfold. It’s seeking the physical, seeking inner thought, seeking the causes and spiritual consciousness, and the fourth state is realizing oneness with the Self, the Eternal, the I AM.

The AUM means

  • A is from Apti (obtaining, reaching) or from Adimatva (being first), Brahma, First Logos.
  • U is from Utkarsa (exaltation) or from Ubhayatva (intermediateness), Vishnu, Second Logos.
  • M is from Miti (erecting, constructing) or from Mi Minati or apīti (annihilation), Shiva, Third Logos.
  • The fourth without an element, is without development, beyond the expanse of universe, the I AM.

Brahman exists in two forms, the material form and the immaterial form, the left and right side.

For the Sanskrit AUM we have for the trinity the “I” of the soul, the inner trinity of man.

“So wie man im Sanskrit das AUM für die Trinität hat, haben wir für das Innere des Menschen das Zeichen ICH.” (Rudolf Steiner, GA 93a, S. 30)

Brahma, the Father Logos is the creator of the past. Vishnu, the Son Logos is the creator of the present and Shiva, the Third Logos, is the creator of the future.

The old adepts expressed this briefly in the sacred word AUM.

1. A is the past that sounds loud and clear.
2. U is a dull vowel and represents the present. It has something of the clarity of the past and of the freedom of action of the present in it.
3. M is the indefiniteness of the future, to which every vowel or this or that action can still add something.

AUM represents the Three Logoi, A the First Logos, the primal truth, U the Second Logos, the primal beauty, and M the Third Logos, the caring love.

“High spiritual beings whom we call masters stream down to us.
We should realize that it’s mainly they who guide us and are near to us in meditation.
We should also know that they walk on earth incarnated in a physical body.

… Every formula has the greatest effect in the original language. When an East Indian wants to give the highest expression to his reverence for the Godhead who reveals himself in three Logoi, he summarizes his feeling in three times three words that describe the activity of the three Logoi:

Primal-truth, primal-goodness, immeasurability, O Brahma
Primal-blissfulness, eternity, primal-beauty
Peace, blessing, undividedness
Aum, peace, peace, peace.


But the whole wealth of spiritual strength is only reproduced if the words are said in Sanskrit, the original language. Then one hears how even the air resonates:

Satyam jnanam anantam brahma
Anandarupam amritam bibharti
Shantam shivam avaitam
Om, Shantih, shantih, shantih.

The same applies to the Lord’s Prayer. Spoken in German, practically the only thing that’s effective is the underlying thought. The Latin Pater noster has a better effect, but the whole power and fullness only come to expression in the original Aramaic.”

Where A is Atma, the Father, U is Buddhi, the Son, and M is Manas, the Holy Spirit, dharma.

Vishnu or Krishna is often shown with seven serpents above their heads, or Krishna dancing on the heads of serpents. It’s the seven bodies of man, the Seven Planetary Powers or Hierarchies as shown in the above diagram.

In Arjuna’s vision of Krishna we see the myriads of beings that are part of the full reality who Krishna really is. The picture illustrates the above diagram, the two sides of the bottom up U.

In John’s Gospel Christ is the Word. This is Not a contradiction!

The Sound of AUM.

OM is a matrix of all sounds. These three sounds can be said without the tongue, all other sound can be said with these three sounds modified by the tongue.

Linguistically, all audible sounds are produced beginning at the root of the tongue and ending at the lips.

  • A is the throat sound, symbolized through the lower lip, sitting on the lower jaw, not connected to the rest of our skeleton. It represent the powers from the spirit.
  • The U sound starts at the root of the tongue, continuing until it ends in the lips. Symbolized through the line between the lips, the Word. The tongue is free of the skeleton, represents the soul between body and spirit, creating the reality by using the powers from body and spirit.
  • M is the lip sound, symbolized through the upper lip, connected to the whole skeleton, representing the powers from the body.

The Soul as Truth, Beauty and Love

The True, the Beautiful, the Good — through all the ages of man’s conscious evolution these words have expressed three great ideals: ideals which have instinctively been recognized as representing the sublime nature and lofty goal of all human endeavour.

In epochs earlier than our own there was a deeper knowledge of man’s being and his connection with the universe, when Truth, Beauty and Goodness had more concrete reality than they have in our age of abstraction.

Anthroposophy, or Spiritual Science, is able once again to indicate the concrete reality of such ideals, although in so doing it does not always meet with the approval of the times.

For in our age men love to be vague and nebulous whenever it is a question of getting beyond the facts of everyday life.

Let us try to understand how Truth, Beauty and Goodness are related, as concrete realities, to the being of man…

In his pre-earthly existence man lives in a world of pure Spirit, where, in communion with higher Beings, he is engaged in building up the spiritual prototype, the spirit-form of his physical body. The physical body here on earth is but an after-copy of the spirit-germ that is elaborated, in a certain sense, by man himself in pre-earthly existence.

In earthly life the human being is conscious of his physical body, but does not know what this implies. We speak of Truth, little realizing that a feeling for truth is connected with our consciousness of the physical body.

When man is confronted by a simple fact, he may either form an idea that harmonizes strictly with it and thus is true, or, from inaccuracy, laziness or positive aversion to truth, he may evolve an idea that does not coincide with the fact.

  • When he thinks the truth, he is in harmony with the feeling he has of his physical body, nay also with his sense of the connection between this physical body and pre-earthly existence.
  • If out of laziness or untruthfulness he forms an idea that is not in accordance with the fact, it is as if he cut the thread that binds him to pre-earthly existence. Untruth severs this thread.

In pre-earthly existence a delicate spiritual wool is spun, and this is concentrated into an after-copy — the physical body. Many threads connect this physical body with pre-earthly existence, and they are severed by untruthfulness.

The purely intellectual consciousness that is a characteristic quality in the early stages of the epoch of the consciousness Soul does not realize that such a severance takes place. And that is why man is subject to so many illusions as to his connection with cosmic existence.

For the most part to-day, man regards his bodily health from a purely physical point of view. But when, through untruthfulness, he severs the threads that bind him with pre-earthly existence, this works right down into his physical body, and especially into the constitution of the nervous system.

The feeling he has of his physical body gives him his “spiritual sense of being” in the universe. And this spiritual sense of being depends upon maintenance of the threads proceeding from the physical body to pre-earthly existence.

If they break, man must create a substitute for his healthy sense of being — and he does so, unconsciously. He is then led, unconsciously, to ascribe to himself a sense of being “out of the common.” But even here he has fallen into an inner uncertainty that makes itself felt even in the physical body….

What is it that can strengthen man in this sense of being? In earthly existence we live in a world that is but a copy of true reality. Indeed, we only understand this physical world aright when we realize it to be this copy of reality.

It behooves us, however, to feel the true reality within us; we must be aware of our connection with the spiritual world. And this is only possible if the bond that links us with pre-earthly existence remains intact.

This bond is strengthened by a love of truth and Integrity. Nothing establishes man’s true and original sense of existence so firmly as a feeling for truth and truthfulness.

To feel himself in duty bound first to “prove all things” he utters, to set due restraint on all his words — this helps to consolidate the sense of existence that is worthy of his being.

To be aware of the spirit within the physical body — with this, indeed, the sense of being is connected. There is, in effect, an intimate kinship between the physical body and this ideal of Truth.

We acquire the etheric body (or body of “formative forces”) only a short time before the descent from pre-earthly to earthly existence. We draw the forces of the etheric world together, as it were, to build up our own etheric body.

The sense of the reality of the etheric body is strengthened by the experience of Beauty. When truth and truthfulness enter the realm of real experience, we are, in a sense, living rightly in the physical body. A highly developed sense of beauty gives us a right relation to the etheric body of formative forces. Whereas Truth is connected with the physical body, Beauty is connected with the etheric body.

If we try either through sculpture, painting, or drama — indeed, through any art — to portray a human being, we endeavour to create a figure that is sufficient and complete in itself — one that contains a whole world, just as man contains the whole universe within himself in his etheric body. For he draws together the etheric forces from the whole universe to mould his etheric body within earthly existence.

An intense feeling for beauty — as it was then conceived — existed in earlier ages. Nothing of the same kind is present in modern civilization, Man cannot be truly man if he has no sense of beauty. It is so, indeed; for to possess a sense of beauty is to acknowledge the reality of the etheric body. To have no sense of beauty is to disregard, to disown, the etheric body.

Enthusiasm for truth and truthfulness can kindle in man — in the unconscious depths of his soul at any rate — a feeling for pre-earthly existence. …. But when this sense is highly developed, it binds man strongly to the pre-earthly past, and his more immediate experience of the earthly present must needs cause a certain sadness to arise within him.

It is a sadness that can only find consolation if the sense of beauty is awakened in the soul. Beauty gives us joy once more, even in the presence of a sadness that must always accompany great enthusiasm for truth.

In a delicate, subtle way this enthusiasm tells us: Truth, alas, is only really present in pre-earthly existence. …. Only enthusiasm for truth can help us to maintain intact our relationship with pre-earthly existence.

We ought never to undervalue the significance of beauty in education and in outer culture. A civilization that is filled with ugly machines, with chimneys and smoke, and dispenses with beauty, is a world that makes no efforts to forge a link between man and pre-earthly existence; indeed, it tears him asunder.

The world of spirit in which we live during our pre-earthly existence is always present. We have but to stretch out our arms, as it were, to this pre-earthly world of spirit.

Although it is always there, a link can only be forged in the depths of unconscious life when man glows with enthusiasm for truth and truthfulness.

And when his heart thrills with love for the beautiful, this too forms a bond with pre-earthly existence. …. To glow in response to beauty means that in his soul man must create in a picture, at least, a new link with pre-earthly spirituality.

A good man is one who can bear his own soul over into the soul of another. Upon this all true morality depends, and without morality no true social order among earthly humanity can be maintained.

When this true morality develops into momentous impulses of will which then pass to reality in moral acts, it begins to be a quickening, all-pervading impulse in the soul, inasmuch as a man can then be moved to real sympathy at the sight of care on the face of another — his own astral body feels pain at the sight of suffering in others.

Truth, then, is related to the physical body, Beauty to the etheric body, Goodness to the astral body. Here we have the concrete reality of the three abstractions of Truth, Beauty, Goodness.

These ideals show us how far man is able to fulfill his whole human nature, when, to begin with, as he lives in his physical body, he is filled with a real sense of truth instead of conventional opinions.

Again, full “humanity” is only afforded a worthy existence when a man can quicken his etheric body into life through his feeling for beauty. …. One can merely gaze at beauty or one can experience it. …. To gaze at beauty is not to experience it. The moment we experience beauty, however, the etheric body is quickened.

A man may do good because of some convention, or because punishment is in store for serious wrong-doing — or, again, because other people will respect him less if he does wrong.

He can, however, also do good from sheer love of goodness. … Such an experience of goodness will always lead to a recognition of the reality of the astral body. Indeed, only this recognition will teach man anything about the essence of goodness.

There can only be abstract knowledge of and inconsequent chatter about goodness, if loving enthusiasm for goodness in its essence does not lead to actual experience of the astral body.

▪️The sense of truth is a heritage from pre-earthly existence.

▪️The sense of beauty will create an image, at least, of pre-earthly connection with spirit.

▪️Experience of goodness is a link, leading directly to the world he enters after death.

To be true is to be rightly united with our spiritual past. To sense beauty means that in the physical world we do not disown our connection with spirit. To be good is to build a living seed for a spiritual world in the future.

Past, present, future — these three concepts, as they play their part in human life, assume far-reaching significance when we understand the concrete reality of the other three concepts — Truth, Beauty, Goodness.

The man who is untruthful denies his spiritual past; the liar severs the threads between himself and his spiritual past. He who disregards beauty is building himself an abode on earth where the sun of spirit never shines, where he wanders in spiritless shadow. The man who belies the good renounces his spiritual future; and yet he would like this future to be bestowed on him, may be by means of some outer remedy.

It was, indeed, out of a profound instinct that Truth, Beauty and Goodness were held to be the greatest ideals of human striving. Yet they have faded away into shadowy words, and it is only our present age that can bestow concrete reality upon them.”

The Manichean Stream, Freemasonry, Templars and the Third Logos

I have had some problems with Manes and the Manichean stream, I had difficulties connecting it to the Rosicrucian stream or for them to coexist. I understood the incarnations of the Rosicrucian stream, but the incarnation of Manes didn’t fit in. The knowledge of the Three Logoi changes that, the puzzle pieces began finding each other. There were three streams led by three pairs of personalities, not just one.

I have Steiners text on the Three Logoi here: The Logos Walks the Earth and the Theosophists view here: The Three Logoi in the Theosophical tradition. The subject is difficult, but I think it’s worth it.

Steiner have written a text on the Manichean stream in connection with the Freemasons and Templars, The Temple Legend Lecture Six. The connection with the Third Logos is illuminating, it explains the more physical aspects compared to the Rosicrucian stream. I have added comments in italics starting in the margin where the text itself is indented.

From the Lectures on the Temple Legend

Manichaeism founded a mighty spiritual stream to which the mediaeval Albigensians, Waldensians, and Cathari also belonged, and later the Order of the Templars and through an extraordinary concatenation of relationships, Freemasonry. Freemasonry really belongs here, in spite of the fact that it united with the Rosicrucians.

The tradition is as follows: In Western Asia there lived a merchant who was exceedingly learned. He was the Author of four works: (1) The Mysteries, (2) The Letters, (3) The Gospel, and (4) The Thesaurus. Tradition holds that his death he left the writings to his widow, who was a Persian.

She had once redeemed a slave named Manes and he was called ‘the Son of the Widow.’ His followers called themselves ‘Sons of the Widow.’

Manes designated himself ‘Paraclete’ or ‘Holy Spirit’ promised by Christ to humanity — that is as an incarnation of the Holy Spirit, merely a reincarnation of the same.

This means that Manes was the Third Logos.


In the legend of Manichaeism we have a starting point for this examination. It is the Temple Legend.

The Master architect Hiram Abiff, who was the Third Logos of that time, made his masterpiece, building the Temple of Solomon, showing he was ready to become the next Second Logos. King Hiram was the Second Logos of that time.IMG_2293

In their next incarnation Elijah gave the mantle on to Elisha, the Third Logos became Second Logos. The new Third Logos was the incarnating Jesus, who became one with the Earth, who entered the cave, and disappeared. The old Third Logos came out of the cave, the resurrection of Lazarus, who became the new Second Logos under the evangelist John.
The new Third Logos incarnated as Manes, starting the Stream of Manichaeism, continuing after the old Temple Builder Hiram Abiff.

Manes studied all major religions at that time and Manes was merging the different streams into one.

All these Spiritual Streams came to expression esoterically through legends. The Legend of Manes is a legend dealing with super-sensible truths, a mighty cosmic legend.

The Spirits of Darkness wished to storm the Kingdom of Light. They came to its borders for the attack. They were, however, able to achieve nothing. Now they were to be punished by the Kingdom of Light. But in the Kingdom of Light there is only good. Thus the Demons of Darkness could only have been punished through good.

Therefore the Spirits of the Kingdom of Light took a portion of their own kingdom and mingled it into the Kingdom of Darkness. Thereby a leaven, so to speak, came into the Kingdom of Darkness and a kind of vortex arose.

The soul incarnated into the body.

Death came into it, whereby it consumed itself. It now carried within itself the seed of its own destruction. There then arose from the Kingdom of Light the Archetypal Man, the human race who must mingle with the Kingdom of Darkness and overcome it.

The human body, the physical, etheric and the astral body, is the darkness, and the human soul the redeemer.

The deep and profound thought here contained is the following: the darkness must be overcome through the Kingdom of Light, through the mingling of the Good with the Evil, in order that the Evil may be redeemed, but not through punishment.

The conception underlying this is also that of Theosophy, namely that Evil is only an untimely Good. For example, an excellent piano technique is good, but if the executant wanted to hammer it out on the piano in the concert hall, there it would be evil.

That which without any doubt is evil today must have been, in its own time proper place, good. The guiding forces of the Lemurian epoch would work evil in a later epoch if they were then still mingled in evolution.

Animals are perfect to live the life they live. Emotions like anger, hatred, envy, and many more, and desires of various kind were necessary to be a successful animal. This is what became our inherited sins, when we got a self, the self couldn’t control these powerful emotions and desires, they became an evil.

In ancient epochs, in Atlantis and Lemuria, all knowledge was in part influenced by that which stands above man. Not until our own epoch have men matured to the stage where they have, as brothers, human beings who have passed through all stages since the middle of the Lemurian Race.

To help man against the desires and emotions man was controlled from above, from the group souls. When we were ready to take responsibility we incarnated into the body we earlier had hovered above after Jesus entered the Earth at Golgotha, and we with him.

In the Fifth Root Race, the guidance of the soul from above withdraws, leaving it to take its own paths. In esotericism, the soul was called the Mother or Isis. The Father was the Instructor or Osiris, who represented the inpouring Divine. He is the Revealer. The soul conceives or receives. The soul is the Mother.

Osiris is the First Logos, Isis the Second Logos and Horus the Son the Third Logos.

During the Fifth Root Race the Father withdraws. Then the soul is widowed, becomes the Widow. The soul, which will later on become completely independent, is designated by Manes, the Divine Fructifier, as the Widow. Then Manes designates himself as the Son, [Father is First Logos, Mother is Second Logos and Mani is Third Logos. ] He it is who prepares the soul to become independent.

The Dark Night of the Soul happens when the soul becomes alone.

Everything that comes from him is a call to the Divine-Spiritual Light of the soul, a rebellion of the soul against everything which has not come from out of the soul itself. ‘You must strip off everything that is external revelation, everything that external authority has transmitted to you. Then you must become ripe to behold your own soul.’

This is central, everything external is opinions, rules, illusions, wishful thinking of the ego, feelings, desires, and so forth, what we also know as karma in eastern tradition and sin in western.

From the Kingdom of Light a spark is sent into the Kingdom of Darkness in order that through itself the Darkness may be redeemed, in order that Evil may be overcome through [caring] gentleness.

We must explain the confluence of Life and Form out of the cooperation of Good and Evil. Life becomes form through finding opposition. It does not all at once express itself in a form.

Only consider how Life hurries from form to form. Life has fashioned the lily, then Life overcomes the Form and it passes over into the seed out of which a new form will be born. Life is formless it could[n’t] live out its own nature in itself. Life is everywhere.

Only incarnated does our development have lasting result.

The limited form is the hindrance. There would be no forms if Life were not obstructed and arrested in its forces which stream out in every direction. Form grows precisely out of that which at higher stages appears as fetters.

The new Life is poured into the old Form. What was formerly Life, later becomes Form for a new Life.

The fructification of Manes is today the Life of men. The Form is what has come, like a seed, out of the Lunar Epoch. In that epoch, evolution was the Life of men. Now this is its outer shell, its form.

Our body is the result of the evolution on the old Æon Moon. Manes, who we also know as Jesus or Abel, the Son of Man, was also prepared in that period to take over as the Logos of the physical. He was the archetype of the physical body up through the first half of Earth, where the Second Logos, Cain, the Son of God was the archetype of the human soul.

The triangle pointing down is the Third Logos, the Triangle pointing up is the First Logos, the center or all of it is the Second Logos.

In the confluence of Life and Form, the other is given at the same time. The Good of an earlier age unites with the Good of a newer age. That gives at the same time the possibility of material manifestation, the possibility of manifested existence. That is the doctrine of Manichaeism.

What is the meaning of the utterance of Manes that he is the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, the Son of the Widow? It means that he will prepare for that epoch in which the men of the Sixth Root Race will be led by themselves, by the light of their own souls. [The Third Logos.]

Manes will create an overlapping stream, a stream which goes further than the stream of the Rosicrucians. The stream of Manes goes over to the Sixth Root Race which has been in preparation since the founding of Christianity. Christianity will appear in its perfected form in the Sixth Root Race.

The Rosicrucian stream is started by the new Second Logos, Lazarus/John, and it concerns the development of the soul. The Stream of the Third Logos, Manichaeism, concerns the body, and it continues after the soul have ended, have raised, preparing the next Æon.

Life as such overcomes every Form. It propagates itself through Christianity and lives in all forms and confessions. Whoever seeks the Christian Life will find it. It creates Forms and shatters Forms. [The Holy Spirit, the redeemed Lucifer, Shiva.

But, in addition, a form for the Christian Life of the Sixth Root Race must be prepared. A number of human beings must be formed into an organization, a Form, in which the Christianity of the Sixth Root Race can find its place. This Form, this external Form of Society must spring from a handful of men whom Manes prepares.

These beings are the pioneers or old souls of the next development phase.

This is the community that Manes prepares. Therefore the first endeavor of Manicheanism is to shape external life in its pure form. That is why Manicheanism laid such great stress on purity.

bodies of manThis is complicated. The Second Logos has it’s I in the soul, it’s the archetype for mankind.
The Third Logos has its I in the astral body, and it’s highest layer is Buddhi.

The Logoi descends down into the creation, with its consciousness creating light in the darkness. It is preparing the bodies for the humanity who will develop in the next Æon, the New Jupiter or New Jerusalem. The Third Logos is the archetype for the next humanity.

The Animals was the perfected result of the last Æon, and up through the first half of the Earth Æon, the Third Logos of that time developed the human body, also working on and with the coming Third Logos. This is also called the Three pre-earthly deeds of Christ/Krishna.

The Cathari were a sect which appeared like a meteor. They gave themselves this name, Cathari, because Cathari means ‘the Pure Ones.’ They were human beings who had to keep themselves pure in their mode of life and in their moral relationships.

In Manicheanism, it was less a question of the cultivation of Life but rather of the cultivation of the external Form of Life for the Sixth Root Race. In this Sixth Root Race, Good and Evil will form a far greater contrast than they do today.

The Third Logos has to do with the body so it has of course to do with the external form.

What will appear in the Fifth Round for the whole of humanity, i.e., that the physiognomy will be a direct expression for that which karma has created in man, so, in the Sixth Root Race, Evil will appear, especially in the Spiritual.

There will be men who are mighty in Love and Goodness. But Evil will also be there as a mood and a disposition without any covering, within a large number of human beings. They will extol Evil. Some inkling in regard to the Evil in the Sixth Root Race glimmers in many men of genius. (Nietzsche’s Blond Beast is a portent of this Evil in the Sixth Root Race.)

The task of the Sixth Root Race is to draw Evil again into itself through [caring] gentleness. In those who are the followers of the Sons of the Widow there will live the inviolable principle that Evil must be overcome through gentleness. That is the task of the Manichean spiritual stream. It appears in forms which many can call to mind, and need not be mentioned. It must express itself in the forming of a community which has to spread above all things: Peace, Love, and Non-resistance to Evil. It must create a Form for the Life that is to come later.

Augustine worked out the Form of the Catholic Church. It was the Form for the present, and had to be the most vigorous opponent of the Form for the future. Augustine, building the Form for the present, Faustus striving to prepare in man the sense for the Form of the future — that was the contrast in the third and fourth centuries after Christ. It is still there. It comes to expression later, again modified and toned down, in the two streams of Augustinianism and Manichaeism.

That is the contrast which developed in the third and fourth centuries A.D. It is still present and finds expression in the struggle of the Catholic Church against the Knights Templars, the Rosicrucians, Albigenses, Cathars and so on. All of them are eliminated from the physical plane, but their inner spirit continues to be active. This contrast manifests again later in modified but still violent form in two currents born out of Western culture, that of Jesuitism (pertaining to Augustine) and that of Freemasonry (Manicheism). Those who lead the battle on the one side are all conscious of what they are doing — they are the Catholics and Jesuits of the higher degrees. Of those, however, who are on the other side, who lead the battle in the spirit of Mani, only very few are conscious; only those at the head of the movement are conscious of it.

Thus Jesuitism (belonging to Augustine) and Freemasonry (Manicheism) confront one another in later centuries. They are the offspring of ancient spiritual currents. That is why you have in both these currents a continuation of the same ceremonies connected with initiation that you find in the old currents. The initiation into Jesuitism has the four degrees: Coadjutores temporales, Scholares, Coadjutores spirituales, Professi. The degrees of initiation in the true occult Freemasonry are similar. The two run parallel to one another but they point in quite different directions.

The Taoist Triad and the Three Logoi

“The Tao produced One; One produced Two; Two produced Three.
From these three, all mankind descended.”

All religious and esoteric traditions, philosophies and sciences try to describe the same world, and my goal was to find the shared pattern below all these. But, it’s not necessarily easy to find these patterns, the vocabularies are usually very different. The logic in Taoism seemed to be very different from the European tradition, where we had seven as key value they had eight, why? There were many questions like that. My first article on Taoism: Tao – The Equilibrium of Yin and Yang.

Especially I Ching was fascinating with their trigrams and hexagrams. It was a very stringent logical system, although the reasons was elusive. It was very different from anything else in the rest of the world. The big question was how it had been created and what the logic behind them was. Was it possible to connect it with European or Indian esotericism, with Kabbalah or astrology?

Some years ago i found out why we used seven and they used eight, it was quite easy when I first found out: Outside China we count the seven inner planetary bodies except Earth, the Chinese includes the Earth. Here we have the eight bodies to the left and the seven bodied projection to the right, where the Sun and Earth are projected into the same point.

I was fascinated by the The Book of Change, called the I Ching, that is one of the world’s oldest works of literature. In my Dark Night of the Soul I used it to solve some difficult questions and I was surprised how precise its advices was, even though it was an old old system. I was then ‘told’ that it was nearly as good as when it was created.

I studied the text and found out that it was kind of teaching or rule book for a civilization, and it was the guiding book for the development of the Chinese civilization.  I Ching was both appreciated by the Confucians and Taoists alike.

All civilizations are in danger of decadence, of the powers of Yin or Ahriman in Anthroposophic vocabulary, but I Ching is a guide for a society to keep the society in balance. This is the reason behind the longevity of the Chinese civilisation, but at the price of stasis, nothing new happened, but it was a perfect first class for new souls. As there isn’t coming many new souls into humanity any longer, they had to break the stasis, and that was what the culture revolution of Mao did. One kind of materialism is replaced by a new materialism, a cultureless materialism, where people can begin to find their own path.

The creation of the eight Pa Kua or trigrams at the root of the sixty-four principles, hexagrams, are ascribed to the legendary Fu-Xi, who ruled during the third millennium BC.

The creation:

Tao gives birth to One,
One gives birth to Two,
The Two gives birth to Three,
The Three gives birth to all universal things.
All universal things shoulder the Yin and embrace the Yang.
The Yin and Yang mingle and mix with each other to beget the harmony.

This reminds very much on the creation story around the Three Logoi. Here a drawing of the creation:

Here’s  how the children was created (from the Book of Change):

The Creative (☰ Qian) is heaven, therefore, it is called the father.
The Receptive (☷ Kun) is the earth, therefore, it is called the mother.
In the Trigram of the Arousing (☳ Zhen,) she seeks for the first time the power of the male and receives a son. Therefore, the Arousing is called the Eldest Son. [The highest spiritual principle in man, Atma.]
In the Trigram of the Gentle (☴ Xun) the male seeks for the first time the power of the female and receives a daughter. Therefore, the Gentle is called the Eldest Daughter. [The lowest principle in man, the physical.]
In the Trigram of the Abysmal (☵ Kan) she seeks for a second time and receives a son. Therefore, it is called the Middle Son. [The second lowest principle, the etheric.]
In the Trigram of the Clinging (☲ Li) he seeks for a second time and receives a daughter. Therefore, it is called the Middle Daughter. [The second highest principle, Buddhi.]
In the Trigram of Keeping (☶ Gen) Still she seeks for a third time and receives a son. Therefore, it is called the Youngest Son. [The third highest principle, Manas.]
In the Trigram of the Joyous (☱ Dui) he seeks for a third time and receives a daughter. Therefore, it is called the Youngest Daughter. [The third lowest principle, the Astral.]

The trigrams have names from their position in the family, and the oldest son and daughter corresponds to the First Logos, the middle son and daughter corresponds to the two personalities of the Second Logos and the youngest son and daughter corresponds to the Third Logos.

Buddhi is the Middle Daughter, and that is right, Buddhi is the feminine power of the trinity, Sophia or Isis.

The Father is heaven and the Mother is Earth, and the hexagrams describes the path humanity follows from Earth to Heaven, all inclusive.

In the Taijitu Shuo version of Taoist cosmology, the Two give birth to the Five Agents or Elements, whose various combinations generate the ten-thousand things.

The trigrams can also be put into a Fano Plane (for the math inclined Wikipedia). Those who know the octal number system will see that all opposing trigrams add to Qian (☰). Like ☰= ☶ + ☱.

Interestingly enough the Fano Plane reminds about the Deathly Hallows 72dbbc99-632c-4d1a-b95e-9233d03048f2 from the Harry Potter books.

The Three Pure Ones

The Three Pure Ones … are the Taoist Trinity, the three highest Gods in the Taoist pantheon. They are regarded as pure manifestation of the Tao and the origin of all sentient beings.

“Heavenly King of the Chaotic Never-ending Primordial Beginning”) at a time of pre-Creation when the Universe was still null and the cosmos was in disorder; manifesting into the first of the Taoist Trinity, Yuánshǐ Tiānzūn. Yuánshǐ Tiānzūn oversees the earliest phase of Creation of the Universe, and is henceforth known as Dàobǎo (道寶) “Treasure of the Tao”.

In One produces Two—Taiji produces Yin Yang, Yuanshi Tianzun manifests into Lingbao Tianzun who separated the Yang from the Yin, the clear from the murky, and classified the elements into their rightful groups. Therefore, he is also known as Jīngbǎo (經寶) “Treasure of the Law/Scripture”.

While Jīng in popular understanding means “scriptures”, in this context it also mean “passing through” [the phase of Creation] and the Laws of Nature of how things are meant to be.

Third Logos:

In the final phase of Creation, Daode Tianzun is manifested from Língbăo Tiānzūn to bring civilization and preach the Law to all living beings. Therefore, He is also known as Shībǎo (師寶) “Treasure of the Master”.

Transformation of Yin to Yang – TAO

The dark side is the universe not yet conscious in God, in Tao, where  the white is transformed darkness.

The body lies in darkness, the spirit in light, but the spirit is weak, and the body is strong. The soul permeates both body and spirit and is the driving power in the development, is TAO, the Logos.

Various Sources on I Ching

The Gnostic Book of Changes is a well researched book on I Ching, usable as introduction and as reference book. It can both be read on the site or downloaded as pdf-file.

In Chapter 3 he describes the structure of the I Ching Oracle with tender care, making much of the above easier understandable.

The Three Logoi and the Mayan

I found these symbols in my research on the Three Logoi:

They seem to originate from the Mayans. They are very much alike the symbols Steiner gives for the three Logoi:

They come from the research of Augustus Le Plongeon (1825-1906) of the Mayans:

He was influenced by Theosophy and introduced a suncross as the Third Logos, but without any word definitions as with the others.

He was a photographer and amateur archeologist, and well known for his many photographs from the Mayans. His interpretations was influenced by Theosophy and it gives many interesting commentaries.

James M. Churchward took the findings of Plongeon and replaced them to India and later to Tibet and used it to promote his ideas of Mu or Lemuria. There are interesting anecdotes and observations but he have a thesis he manipulates the observations to prove. If he had tried to prove Atlantis as the center of America, Europe and Africa instead he wouldn’t have had to manipulate the evidence.

Churchward gave these glyphs:

The blue color is the skin of etheric beings as seen in the physical world. The Third Logos is the land, the Earth.

Churchward wrote this on the glyph of the Third Logos:

A glyph, generally a circle but sometimes oblong with two parallel lines drawn through its center dividing it into three parts as shown (Niven’s Mexican Tablet No. 2379), is a common universal symbol.

 

It is found among the cliff writings of our western states, in inscriptions on the Mexican Pyramid at Xochicalco, in the Maya writings of Yucatan. It appears in a writing on Inscription Rock, northeast Brazil near the boundary of British Guiana, and in other various American carvings. It occurs in the ancient writings of the Uighurs, Hindus, Babylonians and Egyptians.

The Second Logos incarnates again and again and Zarathustra was such an incarnation. He quite possibly incarnated under that name a number of times. The winged symbol are used for the Second Logos in different cultures, like with Isis in Egypt:

A little curiosum, the symbol for the Deathly Hallows from the seventh Harry Potter book is interesting in this connection.

The triangle represents the Invisibility Cloak, the line the Elder Wand
and the circle the Resurrection Stone.

The circle represent zero, the line represents one and the triangle represents three, the first three spiritual numbers. Two don’t exist, duality is an illusion. Zero is the First Logos, one is the Second Logos and three is the Third Logos.

The Resurrection Stone represents the First Logos, it really don’t take part in life on Earth. The Elder Wand represents the Second Logos, the absolute power. The Invisibility Cloak represents the Third Logos, the invisible net behind all of the physical reality, Indras Net.

The Three Logoi in the Theosophical tradition

The Three Logoi as defined in Theosophy

This follows the definition of Helena Blavatsky as it’s described in blavatskytheosophy.com, a serious Theosophical site.

THE FIRST LOGOS is always referred to as the Unmanifested Logos. It is symbolised as the point in the centre of the circle, the circle representing the boundless infinite Absoluteness of Parabrahm and the point marking the very beginning – or rather the re-beginning – of differentiated existence after the Great Night of the Universe (Maha-Pralaya) in which there was nothing – “neither sound nor silence” – but the undifferentiated, unconditioned, infinite, absolute Parabrahm Itself.

The First, Unmanifested, Logos is also called the highest Logos. It is said that it is out of space and time and is “latent potentiality” only. The First Logos is the “potentiality” of the Universe, whilst the Second Logos is the “potency” of the Universe. The Second emanates from the First. Being only latent, potential, and unmanifested, the First Logos is very close to the Absolute and indeed is Its direct radiation. It is not really possible to say any more about it than this. But in the teachings of Theosophy we notice that Atman, the highest Principle of the human constitution, is sometimes spoken of as corresponding to the Unmanifested Logos, whilst most of the time it is equated with the Absolute. This is not a contradiction, as may appear on the surface, but is actually a clear indication of something.

THE SECOND LOGOS is the Manifested Logos. In and of itself it is actually only “the semi-manifested” for it manifests through and as the Third Logos. In “Transactions,” HPB speaks of it as “the Universal and Intelligent Soul, Divine Ideation, combining the ideal plans and prototypes of all things in the manifested objective as well as subjective world.”

Whilst the First Logos is described as “latent potentiality,” the Second is described as “differentiated consciousness.” We are told that space and time commences with the emanation of the Second Logos from the First Logos. The Unmanifested is the potentiality; the Manifested is the potency.

It is this Logos which is the Universal Mind, spoken of in Hinduism as Mahat, which literally means “The Great.” And as the Hindu allegories show, the Divine Mind produces “seven mind-born sons” which go on to play major and important roles throughout the Universe. The synthesis of these seven – which are actually seven rays, seven powers, or seven forces – is what Theosophy calls the Third Logos.

THE THIRD LOGOS is referred to variously as the Seven Rays, the Seven Creative Powers, or the Seven Logoi. The Second Logos contains in itself the Third Logos and manifests through and as this Third Logos, as was mentioned a moment ago. If we call the First Logos latent potentiality and the Second differentiated consciousness, we can refer to the Third as the ultimate differentiation of the Second, in the form of individualised cosmic forces. From them “will proceed the innumerable series of Hierarchies.”

These “Seven” are really the seven occult forces of the Universe and which result, amongst other things, in the actualisation and objective manifestation of that which lies latent, subjective, and archetypal within the Universal Mind. In other words, they see to the fulfillment of the Plan for the construction and building of the Universe.

“Many different names used in many different spiritual traditions may end up becoming confusing unless we keep in mind that they are almost always merely illustrative names applied to this same Logos. Just as it is Brahmā which comes forth as the Logos from the Absolute Brahman in the philosophy of the Upanishads, so it is Adam Kadmon (“Heavenly Man”) which comes forth as the Logos from Ein-Soph in the Kabbalah, and Avalokiteshvara which comes forth from Adi-Buddhi in the esotericism of Tibetan Buddhism. Some Hindus will speak of the Absolute and its Logos as Shiva and Shakti, while others will prefer to use the term Vishnu, Narayana, or Ishvara for the Logos. Others may speak of it as the Universal Kundalini or Mother of the Universe, while a true Christian Gnostic may be inclined to call it the Divine Sophia.

In Theosophy, the Unmanifested Logos is often referred to as Narayana. Narayana is another name for Vishnu in Hinduism and it can be translated as “the Spirit of Divine Ideation moving on the waters.” Do you remember in the opening of the Book of Genesis in the Bible where it talks about the “Spirit of God” moving over “the waters of the deep” before the world came into being? In the far older Hindu scriptures, we read that Narayana began to move over the infinite waters of abstract Space and that this was “the first flutter of manifestation” which resulted in the cyclic reappearance of the Universe after the Maha-Pralaya.

HPB sometimes spoke of the First Logos as Brahmā, however, and often applied the name Brahmā to the Second Logos also. So we would do well to follow her example in not attaching too much importance to names but focussing instead on the idea and concept which lies behind those names and terms.

The Seven Rays which are referred to as the Third Logos are the Seven Kumaras in Hinduism – which are the seven “mind-born Sons of Brahmā” or Sons of the Universal Mind – whilst in Buddhism they are the Seven Dhyani Buddhas, in Christianity the Seven Archangels, in Judaism the Seven Elohim, and the seven lower Sephiroth of the Kabbalah. All different names for one and the same “thing.” As the most ancient scripture known to man (the Rig Veda of Hinduism) says, “Truth is ONE, though the sages call it by many names.”

The main difference between Steiner and Blavatsky is that Steiner see these descriptions as describing actual beings and hierarchies where Blavatsky saw them as abstractions. Krishna is an example of the Second Logos, Shiva an example of the Third Logos and Brahma an example of the First Logos. Here it’s interesting to see that Brahma, First Logos, is both connected to the lowest world and the highest world, and that he really isn’t very active in the development of Earth. Krishna, who are the same as Vishnu, are the ‘I’ of the Earth, the center of the Seven Rays, the Heart Chakra of man, he is the main consciousness in the Earth development.

Taking first the manifestation of consciousness, the site of the universe having been marked out [see diagram II] :

1. the Logos Himself appears as a point within the sphere;
2. the Logos goes forth from that point in three directions to the circumference of that sphere or circle of matter;
3 the consciousness, of the Logos returns on Itself, manifesting at each point of contact with the circle one of the three fundamental aspects of consciousness, known as Will, Wisdom and Activity, as well as by other terms.

The joining of the three aspects, or phases of manifestation, at their outer points of contact with the circle, gives the basic triangle of contact with matter. This triangle, together with the three triangles formed by the lines traced by the point, yields the”divine tetractys”, sometimes called the Kosmic Quaternary.

Taking now the changes set up in Universal matter, corresponding to the manifestations of consciousness, we have, in the sphere of primordial substance, the virgin matter of space [see Diagram III ] :
the Logos

1. appearing as a point irradiating the sphere of matter;
2. the point vibrating between centre and circumference, thus making the line which marks the drawing apart from spirit and matter;
3. the point, with the line revolving with it, vibrating at right angles to the former vibration, and forming the primordial Cross within the Circle.

The Cross is thus said to “proceed” from the Father [the point] and the Son [the diameter] and represents the third Logos, the creative mind,the Divine activity ready to manifest as Creator.

I have used a drawing of Steiner to show the Three Logoi in the hierarchies and in man. It’s an old diagram of European esoteric origin called the Alchemist Mountain. It’s a versatile diagram that can be used to show many aspects of man, the gods and the universe. They are the Seven Rays mentioned by Blavatsky.

Here we have three definitions of Beings who bring about, who underlie a planetary chain. They are called the three Logoi.

1. The Third Logos produces by means of combining.
2. When out of one substance something else having new life comes into being, this is brought forth by the Second Logos.
3. Everywhere, however, where we have to do with a coming forth out of nothing, we have the First Logos.

This is why the First Logos is also often called the One who is immanent in things, the Second Logos the One who in the quiescent substance in things creates life out of the living, the Third Logos the One who combines everything existing, who puts the world together out of things.    

These three Logoi always manifest in the world in and through one another.

The Logoi’s Creating in the Physical world and the Fibonacci Sequence

The Golden Mean as the Key to the Universe

From I was a young and hopeful mathematician I have been fascinated by the Golden mean and the Fibonacci Series, with its connection to plants and animals, but I lacked a good explanation for why it was found in all of nature, in all of the universe.

Plato said that the Golden Mean, Phi, is key to the universe. It has puzzled me over time as the interesting and beautiful structures following the Fibonacci numbers in nature aren’t explanation enough, there has to be a spiritual background. If the Golden Mean is the key, the Golden Triangle is the door. So, what is the spiritual explanation behind?

The Fibonacci Series

The formula for the Fibonacci series is

Fi+1= Fi + Fi-1, where the initial conditions are i= 1, F0= 0, F1= 1

where the subscript describes the position in the sequence.

Notice that the new value depends on the previous two! This is the principle behind all creation. If it only depended on the foregoing, it would be a repetition, like the propagation of single-celled organisms producing copies of itself, but here the the growth factor is phi, the golden mean.

This means we get a sequence that looks like this:

0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, …

Growth from point to point in the sequence approaches a fixed value the further we get and this growth factor is phi= Fi / Fi-1 (~1.6180), which we also know from the golden section.

The growth is large, in mathematical language we call it exponential, which can be displayed graphically:

What’s makes the formula interesting is that the next value depend on the two preceding values, not the last alone, this explains the growth in plants, where each step always builds on the already existing, and the new is not just a repetition of the previous, it’s bigger and better, with a factor of Phi, the Golden Mean.Here an example of plant growth with the number of leaves produced:flower8

The Fibonacci Series and Reincarnation

I read a Theosophic text some years ago where it was stated that man through each incarnation spiritually was growing with the factor Phi. It sounded very interesting, but there was no explanation for why it was that way, but I remembered it, one day I might find out.

One day I found out that the Fibonacci series also described the sexual reproduction, and that was the beginning of the understanding.

The Fibonacci formula tells that one incarnation builds on the two previous incarnations, which following Steiner should be one female and one male incarnation. It sounded reasonable.

Hegel’s dialectic described as thesis plus antithesis, resulting in the synthesis, or with his own concepts: abstract, negative and concrete. You start with the abstract and put it up against its opposite, the negative and from these are the concrete formed:

Fi+1= Fi + Fi-1        where Fi-1= Thesis, Fi = Antithesis,  Fi+1= Synthesis

If we look at the incarnations of a person, a is the first incarnation as a woman, b is the next incarnation as a man, it will be followed by a second incarnation c as a man, the synthesis of the previous two. Next incarnation d are as a woman and also the next incarnation e and as all incarnations hereafter will be between d and e, they will no longer alternate between the sexes, but all subsequent incarnations will be as a woman:fibonacci-split

Krishna, Radha and the Holy Spirit

Krishna and the Flute

A dear friend of mine made me aware of Krishna in modern India, and I am impressed by the life and devotion.

I got the inspiration that we in the western world also know Krishna, he is an incarnation of the Indian Trinity and the soul is an aspect of Vishnu, the body an aspect of Shiva and the Spirit an aspect of Brahma. In Christ we have the body as the Holy Spirit, the soul as the Son and the spirit as the Father.

And when thinking about it, I realized that I should have known it beforehand, as, in my understanding, Jesus became the Holy Spirit, the Holy Grail Christ filled and from where he ascended.

The disciples ask Jesus if he needs to die and he answers that if he don’t die, the Comforter wouldn’t appear, the Holy Spirit wouldn’t appear.

When Jesus died, he entered the death world, the astral world, and the astral world is where the Holy Spirit works the clockwork of the Earth. Jesus is the top of an Iceberg, physically he is a man, but spiritually a god.

Krishna and Radha

The Holy Spirit is known as the Wind in the Willows and Krishna is known through his flute, the melody behind life, the consciousness behind the physical world, and if we listen carefully, are conscious about the details in our life, we can hear the melody, see the trace of small miracles everywhere. This flute stays with Radha when he descends into the physical world, she represent the feminine side of the Third Logos, the Holy Spirit, where Krishna represent the Second Logos, the Word.

Krishna, is the teacher of humankind, although we often believe he’s a trickster, as we don’t understand the path our life takes.

Steiner compares the teaching of Arjuna by Krishna with the teachings of sct. Paul, and that is the same being, but with added wisdom from the Jewish path upto and including Golgotha and the Holy Spirit, but also more physical than the etheric wisdom of Krishna. When Saul have the Christ vision he gets blinded by the light of Krishna, it enters into him, he now have the wisdom of Krishna, when he can see again he sees with the understanding of Christ and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Saulus became Paulus.

A dialog from Gita Govinda about Krishna’s real purpose of being born, to establish dharma, for the soul to become an inner reality of the human being where it earlier was an outer being, hovering above. This became a reality at Golgotha, now the soul was within man and through conscience, intelligence and inspirations we can feel some of dharmas work. First at the return of Christ in the coming years will we see karma become lighter, first now are people beginning to understand love. Radha and Krishna is the teachers of love.

Radha: But some day you will leave Vrindavan?

Krishna: Yes, I have to. I will have to move towards my real purpose of being born.

Radha: What is your real purpose of being born?

Krishna: To establish `dharma’ so that right can triumph over wrong.

Radha: What was the purpose of your time spent in Vrindavan? Especially with me.

Krishna: To teach people the weapon with which they can triumph good over evil.

Radha: Which is?

Krishna: Love. Only Love can conquer everything. When you fight with Love, no one gets hurt; not even the ones you’re fighting with.

Radha: So will all your wars be fought with Love?

Krishna: I will try my best to do that. If it doesn’t work, then I may have to use other means so good can triumph over evil, but personally, I won’t lift any other weapon apart from Love and counseling; but I may encourage others to do so if all else fails.

Radha: (Radha is surprised) What will you “take” from them?

Krishna: In return for their partnerships, I will “take” from them, their most painful & difficult karma.

Radha: What kind of painful & difficult karma?

Krishna: Pain, sadness, loneliness, grief, poverty… anything. And I’ll replace it with love.

Krishna: I will take brunt of their most difficult karma, so they can lead a good life. I will make their life easier.

Krishna and Radha as Teacher’s of Love

A dear friend of mine made me aware of Krishna in modern India, and I am impressed by the life and devotion.

One of the central themes is the love between Krishna and Radha.

The love affair starts when the astral body Radha joins with the etheric body Krishna, and it ends when Krishna leaves Radha to descend to earth to join with the physical body, the etheric separates from the astral, causing Radha’s death. This is related to the myth about Orpheus and Eurydice/Eurydike.

This is both a cosmic event, that happened when dreamtime ended, but it happens also each day, when we go through the small death.

When we wake, and the etherbody joins with the astral body, the love affair starts.

When we sleep, and the astral body separates from the etheric body, only connected to the etheric body through a silver cord, she dies, she become unconscious and enter sleep.

The initiation, the Rosicrucian Chümical wedding, the Union of the masculine and feminine, is the marriage between Krishna and Radha, thereafter they will not separate again.

Krishna and Radha as the Teachers of Love

A dialog from Gita Govinda is telling that each person has two parts, an astral part, Radha and an etheric part, Krishna, that they are searching the other part. Love is the power that make them find each other, and it’s their task is to learn humankind to love, as it’s the only way to find the other part.

Krishna: “When two souls are united, the difference of the other or second vanishes; so if we are but one soul, then why do you wish for marriage?”

Radha: “Right now I see no difference between me and the others; everyone thinks you belong to them; so how does that set me apart?”

Krishna: “There are hundred Gopis who search for me every day; who wish to be with me; but you’re the only one I search for, and wish to be with; does that not set you apart?”

Radha: “No, it does not; because you seem eager to accept the Love of every Gopi, not just mine; I have no proof I’m apart from others.”

Krishna: “I am eager to accept the Love of not just every Gopi, but every Gwala, and every other creature that wants to shower me with love.

Can’t you see Radha, that is the purpose why I am here; to fill every living soul with Love; to teach every creature to Love.
I cannot reject any Love that is offered to me; Love requires both strength and courage. It requires courage to profess Love; Love that is professed and accepted gives strength.

Courage and strength will help every living being to endure the highs and lows of life. By encouraging living beings to profess their love to me, I gift them courage; by accepting their love, I gift them strength

If every Radha has to find her Krishna, and every Krishna His Radha, they have to start somewhere, with someone.

I am that Beginning; by learning to love me, and feeling that they are loved in return, I take every Gopi and Gwala as every other creature one step forward towards their own Krishnas and Radhas.

If I were to reject their Love, then they would never have the courage to ever profess Love to anyone again, then how would they ever find and unite, with their own Krishnas and Radhas?”

Radha: “Even if I were to accept what you are saying Krishna, how does it prevent you from marrying me, if it is important to me? What is it that prevents you from marrying me?

Krishna: “Because, we are but one soul; marriage is to unite two souls; we are one soul split into two; we are simply part of the other.”

Radha: “If we are but one soul split into two, then Krishna, then you should not have a problem offering me marriage.”

Krishna: “Now you are speaking from Ego; Ego divides; you are seeing us as two separate entities; speak from Love and you’ll see we were one.”

Krishna and Romanticism

At the start of the human development we were animals with a soul seed, we acted as animals and we procreated as animals, mindless love, we should learn to love as individuals, face to face, and it didn’t happen by chance, books were written to teach mankind how to do it, into the least detail, like Kama Sutra, and Krishna and Radha taught man how to love with the heart.

A sahajiya poem of Vidyāpati is rendered into English by David R. Kinsley thus:

As I near the bed,
He smiles and gazes.
Flower-arrows fill the world.
The sport of love,
Its glow and luxuries
Are indescribable, O friend,
And when I yield myself,
His joy is endless.
Freeing my skirt,
He snatches at my garland.
My downcast mind
Is freed of frontiers,
Though my life is held
In the net of his love.
He drinks my lips.
With heart so thrilled,
He take my clothes away.
I lose my body
At his touch
And long to check
But grant his love.

Says Vidyāpati:

Sweet as honey
Is the talk of a girl in love.
